Vantsteri has released a comprehensive decontamination and prevention plan for large cruise ship systems in response to the norovirus outbreak
Incident Overview:
Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas cruise ship reported a Norovirus outbreak during its voyage from San Diego to Miami, affecting nearly 100 passengers and several crew members. According to the CDC, 94 out of 1,874 passengers showed symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.
The Challenge:
Cruise ships are essentially floating microbial incubators. High humidity, recirculated air, and limited space make disinfection complex. Norovirus is highly contagious and resistant to many common disinfectants.
VanTsteri Response Plan:
• Drinking Water Systems: Full cleaning and hydrogen peroxide vapor disinfection
• Recreational Water Systems: Material-compatible cleaning and decontamination
• Drainage Systems: Targeted drain disinfection with validated results
• HVAC Systems: Full-cycle VHP decontamination preventing airborne spread
• Cabins & Dining Areas: Traceable documentation and bioindicator verification
Our Commitment:
VanTsteri remains committed to global biosafety excellence. With decades of experience in pharmaceutical, laboratory, and transportation environments, our team ensures every voyage stays safe, compliant, and microbe-free.
